Palomar Observatory
See where the magic happens at Palomar Observatory!
Have you ever looked up at the stars and wondered what it would take to see one up close? Look no further! There is FREE admission to the Observatory! It's open to the public from 9am to 4pm every day of the year except December 24 and 25. It's a great place for a free vacation getaway to see how this Cal Tech Research Center studies the stars and the universe. You are able to explore the observatory with a self-guided tour/visit. Optional docent-led tours are available for a nominal fee on Saturdays only - no reservations are accepted. This Observatory is a few hours from Los Angeles and an hour or so from San Diego. If you plan on taking advantage of your free self guided tour at the Observatory,
I also recommend this to be a combo weekend trip to the historic town of Julian.

If you decide to make this a combo day trip, please get up EARLY to make the drive to the Observatory and arrive by 9am. You will want to enjoy what the Observatory has to offer and have plenty of time to explore Julian in the afternoon.
