Julian
For your next FREE vacation, you don't want to miss the old town of Julian. This historic gold mining town is located Northeast of San Diego in the beautiful and tranquil Cuyamaca mountains.
Take a step back into time and experience this historic town, remember this little town closes EARLY! All shops typically close around 5pm so start your trip early. The Downtown District is an easy and fun walk for all members of your family. There are a lot of little quaint shops and historic buildings to check out. It is FREE to walk around and check things out in the Downtown District... but you won't be able to resist getting a slice of homemade apple pie or taking a peek inside one of the antique stores or wineries. There is even an old used book store at the end of town that has some great finds! You can take your own self guided historical walking tour of this peaceful town! Visit the Chamber of Commerce located in the Town Hall on the corner of Main and Washington. You can pick up a map between 10am and 4pm every day of the week!! If you make this a Sunday day trip, then get ready for some excitement! Make sure you bring the kids because they will love all of the hustle and bustle activity this old mining town keeps for Sunday visitors! Sundays between 12pm and 4pm you will find Julian's reenactment group performing historical skits including gunfights and comedy skits for the public. This is FREE for everyone! You just need to be at the right place at the right time! - The right place is in-between Cabbages & Kings and the Julian Market & Deli.
- The right time is Sundays at 1p.m., 2p.m. & 3p.m.
- Don't forget... It's FREE admission!!
This is a great FREE day trip for the whole family!
I also recommend this to be a combo weekend trip to the Palomar Observatory.
Julian is about 30 miles from the Observatory. If you decide to make this a combo day trip, please get up EARLY to make the drive to the Observatory and arrive by 9am. You will want to enjoy what the Observatory has to offer and have plenty of time to explore Julian in the afternoon.
