California Adventure

California Adventure is located on the other side of Disneyland or you could say it's just practically next door!

As you've already guessed, there is even MORE magic over here! I recommend the roller coasters of course! Soarin' Over California and California Screamin' are the best... hold on tight! This park takes a look into the history of California from the gold rush to Hollywood and the Golden State Bridge, you will find attractions and fun for everyone!

Are you looking for kid attractions for your little ones? A MUST SEE is Turtle Talk with Crush located in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot. Crush is an animated sea turtle who really talks to you and your kids! He answers questions, makes jokes and comments to the crowd with live and unrehearsed conversations.

One show in California Adventure that your kids will be searching for and asking, "What Time Is It?" is High School Musical 2. This live show travels on a stage and performs in Sunshine Plaza near the Golden State Amphitheater. Your kids will be dancing and singing along with the show with its contagious enthusiasm!

Electric parade from Disneyland

Make sure you save enough time and energy for the exciting parades at California Adventure. The Pixar Play Parade is in the late afternoon/early evening and Disney's Electrical Parade is normally around 8:45pm. There are about 1/2 million colored lights on floats, music, and Disney characters to enjoy. It is a fabulous sight to see and one your children will remember forever!

High recommendations are in order for a Royal lunch or dinner experience at Ariel's Grotto. Located in Paradise Pier, this sit down restaurant experience will delight little ones as they meet the Disney princesses and learn princess etiquette. You will see Ariel, Snow White, Belle, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella as they host this Royal meal. Bring your camera to take lots of pictures and it's okay to ask for autographs!

SECRET TIP- Call ahead for reservations by calling 714-781-DINE(3463) and get priority seating for your next visit. If you forget to call, its okay, stop by and ask if there is availability for priority seating. Sometimes there isn't but it never hurts to ask!

THEME PARK TIPS:

Annual Passport- is expensive... but if you plan on taking the kids several times a year, it will pay off. Southern California residents can purchase a "Select Annual Passport" at a reduced cost!

Park Hopper (multi-day) Tickets- a little pricey but can be a good deal in the long run. Read the fine print for expiration of your Park Hopper Ticket and make sure you can complete your visits in the time frame specified. The Park Hopper Ticket is good for going back and forth to Disneyland. Single day and multi-day tickets are available.

Parking- be prepared to pay $12.00 to $17.00 to park. It depends on the type of vehicle you drive. SECRET TIP ON PARKING= You can park up to one hour before California Adventure opens! Park before the long lines start and get into the park before the rush!!

Take a backpack and wear comfortable shoes- even if your kids are a little older and can handle a lot on there own, you still need portable storage! Your family will be sure to buy little trinkets, shirts and funny hat ears... Worst case scenario, California Adventure offers Package Check Service at 1 different location.

Parade events and Musical Shows- some are seasonal and some are year round. Be sure to check the schedule when you enter the park. Get a front row spot/seat early for the best view!

Food and drinks- in general you can't take anything into the parks. You need to purchase all food and drink items in the park. Be prepared to purchase all drinks and meals/snacks.

Pet accommodations- if you happen to have Fido or Fi-fi with you on your trip (your dog or cat), don't worry... you have options. Disneyland Kennel Club has Day Time accommodations available (no reservation necessary) for $20.00/day. Please call the Disneyland Resort Guest Information line (714) 781-7290 for current vaccination requirements.

FASTPASS- an added BONUS, some rides use FASTPASS including these roller coasters Soarin' Over California and California Screamin'.

Guided tours- there is one type of tour available before the park opens. Discounts are available! There are age/size restrictions for this tour so be sure to ask when you make reservations. This tour is done using a Segway® Personal Transporter. Never heard of one? It's that cool two wheel platform you stand on and steer by yourself as you drive around the park!!! Safety helmets are provided for the tour. Reservations should be made up to a month ahead of your visit to park to ensure availability.

California Adventure is a great place for the whole family, there are kid attractions and age appropriate activities for everyone. Adults might prefer the roller coasters and activities at this location a little more. To be honest, it truly is a toss up between the two parks. There is something for everyone at each park, and Disneyland has tugged on my heart ever since my first trip there!!!
